Katya Jones and Wynne Evans have progressed to Strictly Come Dancing’s Halloween week amid recent controversy on the BBC show.

The dancing duo was in the spotlight after an “inside joke” led to misunderstandings, with Wynne being criticized for making Katya appear “uncomfortable” when he touched her waist. However, Katya dismissed these claims and clarified that she didn’t feel uncomfortable and it was merely a light-hearted moment between them.

Upon securing their place in the next stage of the programme, Katya couldn’t contain her excitement, embracing Wynne enthusiastically. Later, while speaking with Claudia Winkleman, they shared details about the kind individuals who had been adorning their practice room in Wales.

Katya also mentioned learning Welsh from Wynne and expressed gratitude to their supporters with a heartfelt “diolch”. Reflecting on the accusations levelled against him, Wynne admitted he was “heartbroken” by the public response, reports the Mirror.

“I’m absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the last day,” he disclosed. “It’s not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we’re really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke.”

“It was a stupid joke that went wrong, OK? We thought it was funny. It wasn’t funny. It has been totally misinterpreted. Everything’s on Katya’s socials. She’s talked about it. She’s explained that it was a joke. She wasn’t offended in the least. She doesn’t feel uncomfortable. We’ve got a brilliant friendship, an absolutely tight friendship, and I’m sorry if anybody was offended by it, but it was a joke. And that’s all there is. There is no real story, really.”

During their It Takes Two interview, Katya also took a moment to defend Wynne. She said: “Sorry Fleur [East – who hosts the show], sorry, I will get onto dancing I promise but can I please first get something out of the way that I feel like overshadowed our performance for absolutely no reason and quite frankly, actually, I can’t bear sitting here watching this man [Wynne] being portrayed as someone he’s not.”

“In fact, it couldn’t be further away from the truth so I have to make this absolutely clear that this whole incident with the hand and the high five on Saturday night it was an inside joke between Wynne and I. Was it a silly joke? Yes! Was it a bad joke? Yes! “.
