Vale of Leven’s all-new women’s side are ready to kick off the new campaign next month — and make some club history along the way.

For the first time in the club’s 152 year history they will have a ladies team competing in the Scottish Women’s Recreational Football League this season, coached by Pam Kinnon and Ceiryn Fisher.

It’s the latest step the Vale have taken to increase their football offering — already running teams from mini-kickers right up to the senior side in the West of Scotland League.

Tracy King from the team believes that moving into the women’s game was a natural next step for the Millburn side.

She told the Lennox: “The club has been building a strong foundation for several years now with thriving youth teams, amateur sides, along with a growing community of football enthusiasts.

“Creating a women’s team was a natural progression in the commitment to providing opportunities for all levels.

“Is now the right time? Only time will tell but there is no better moment to capitalise on the growing interest in women’s football and inspire the next generation of female footballers.

“A women’s team was a crucial missing piece in the club’s offerings.

“The Vale of Leven Football Club has always strived to be inclusive and cater to everyone in the community. Adding a women’s team not only compliments the club’s football pyramid but also provides a platform for female players to showcase their talent and at a competitive level.

“It’s a testament to the club’s dedication to promote a vibrant and diverse footballing environment.

“The pathway from fun fours to adult women’s football is invaluable. Having role models in women’s football inspires young girls to dream big and pursue their passion for the sport.

“It shows them that there are opportunities to play at a competitive level and achieve their goals.”

And Tracy is determined to give more local players the chance to get into football — at a time where the women’s game is thriving.

“By creating a pathway into ladies’ football, clubs are nurturing a pipeline of talented female players and ensuring the future of women’s football is a good one” she explained.

“You only have to look at the success that women’s football has achieved over the years – Lionesses winning the world cup, Celtic women’s team competing in the UEFA Champions league and so on.

“While we don’t have specific targets in terms of league position, our main goal is to have a successful and enjoyable season. We want to build a strong team spirit, develop our players, and compete competitively.

“The focus is on progress, learning, and having fun.

“As the team grows and develops, we hope to achieve even greater success moving forward – hopefully progressing into the Scottish Women’s Football League, but for the moment small steps are the way to ensuring a legacy for the club.”

And Tracy revealed that the squad are always open to welcoming new faces — whether experienced players or those starting out in the game.

She added: “We are still on the lookout for a few more players of all levels to join. Whether they are a seasoned footballer or just starting out, we’re looking for talented individuals to contribute to the squad.

“Experience isn’t a prerequisit —we’re more interested in their passion for the game and your willingness to learn and develop.

“The response to the team has been amazing so far.

“The support from the community, other Vale teams and the players has been overwhelming.

“It’s clear that there was a genuine desire for a women’s team in the area, and we’re excited to see the enthusiasm and commitment from everyone involved.”

In a statement, the Vale said: “The Vale of Leven Football Club are delighted to have the new ladies’ team up and running.

“When first approached with the idea there was no hesitation on our part.

“The club has been involved with football for over 150 years and now that we can offer the opportunity for ladies in the area to get involved in the sport is fantastic.

“The team along with our other adult teams and youth academy can only strengthen our bond with the local community and help the club continue to grow.”
