HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A 5-year-old girl is expected to survive after the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said she accidentally shot herself at a home in northwest Harris County.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said this happened overnight on Parasol Lane, which is off of West Road near Fairbanks North Houston Road.
According to Gonzalez, deputies with the Harris County Pct. 1 Constable’s Office were called to the scene after she accidentally fired a gun that she she found in the home. An ambulance rushed the girl to an area hospital where she underwent surgery and is expected to be OK.
Gonzalez said the girl’s 32-year-old stepfather was arrested on charges of felon in possession of a weapon and possession of controlled substances. Gonzalez also said there were more children among those in the home at the time of the shooting.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the case.
