Strictly Come Dancing fans were moved to tears as Chris McCausland, the show’s first-ever blind contestant, was seen seeking reassurance from his professional dancing partner following their Waltz.

The comedian, 47, alongside Dianne Buswell performed a poignant Waltz to Gerry and the Pacemakers’ ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, provoking an emotional response from viewers on Saturday night.

The performance not only touched the audience at home but also drew a near tearful reaction from judges, including Shirley Ballas, as Chris shared the personal significance of the song. Chris and his Australian dance partner Dianne were awarded 35 points by judges Shirley, Anton du Beke, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood, marking their highest score in the competition to date, reports the Mirror.

As the pair embraced after their astounding dance, sharp viewers observed Chris whispering in Dianne’s ear. During their hug, Dianne expressed to Chris: “I’m so proud of you”, leading Chris to quietly ask: “Did I do okay?”.

Dianne reassured him affirmatively: “You did good yeah. Really, really, good.”

Social media users on X, formerly Twitter, were quick to express their sentiments towards the heartfelt exchange. Television presenter Dan Walker voiced his support for Chris, noting the touching moment where the Strictly contestant questioned his performance, stating: “Chris asking Dianne ‘did I do ok? ‘…. Yes fella, you absolutely smashed it up again,” lauded Dan.

Chris has solidified his position as this year’s favourite to hoist the glitterball trophy.

However, his skyrocketing success is giving BBC bosses a headache, as he won’t be able to participate in the live UK tour. A conflict with his own stand-up dates means that if Chris does emerge victorious in the 2024 series – and the bookies currently have him as the 9/4 favourite – he would be the first winner in the show’s history not to take his dancing shoes on the road afterwards.

The issue arises from the comedian’s show, Yonks, which has dates throughout January and February that directly clash with Strictly’s live theatre show. His absence would be a disappointment for fans because dad-of-one Chris, who has been blind since his 20s, has proven to be the standout star of the series.

It also casts doubt on Craig Revel Horwood ‘s assurance that the BBC Studios-backed tour, which charges between £35 and £100 per ticket, will allow fans to see “their favourite celebrities and dancers up close and personal”.

One source told The Mirror: “Craig has suggested that all this year’s favourites will be there but that’s not true. How can Chris be in two places at once? As things stand, Chris can’t do it because every show on his comedy tour from January 17 clashes.”
