A doctor has recommended incorporating beans into your diet as a means to target abdominal fat and reduce waist measurements rapidly. Speaking on the Feel Better Live More podcast, Dr William Li discussed everyday food items that are effective in diminishing “harmful body fat”.

Highlighting the virtues of beans, he stated: “A can of inexpensive white beans has been studied. Just eating a can of beans for five days out of seven days has been shown to shrink your waistline by one inch by burning down harmful body fat.”

“What’s in a bean? Well, a lot of dietary fibres, some healthy fats from the legumes. Obviously how you cook the beans is going to make a difference.”

For those keen to bolster their fat-burning prowess, he also suggested using extra virgin olive oil: “If you want to stew them add a little extra virgin olive oil and now you’ve gamed up because olive oil can also burn harmful body fat as well.”

Furthermore, researchers at the Shanghai Clinical Center for Diabetes have endorsed the benefits of Heinz baked beans in troubling excess weight, reports Surrey Live.

Attributing such effects to starch within the storied brand, this ingredient couples up with brown bread’s wholegrains to complete the British favourite, beans on toast, which they declared were healthful.

The study’s authors have made a compelling case, stating: “We demonstrate that resistant starch can facilitate weight loss. The benefits are associated with changes in gut microbiota composition.”

Nutrition expert Rob Hobson shared his insights with Diabetes.co.uk, issuing a word of caution about the findings: “Beans could, in theory, help people slim. However, slathering your toast in butter would negate any effects.”

He further explained the importance of consistency in dietary habits: “Of course, lots of this is not going to happen from eating one serving. But if you ate it every day it might impact, depending on what the rest of your diet looked like.”

In another nod to healthy fats, sports nutritionist Abigail Roberts has echoed the virtues of extra virgin olive oil, as reported by GloucestershireLive: “When you drink olive oil daily, something extraordinary can happen to you. Olive oil, particularly extra-virgin olive oil, is one of the biggest superfoods”.

Roberts elaborated on the oil’s nutritional profile: “It is packed with antioxidant compounds, like vitamin E, oleacein, and oleocanthal. As well as compounds called polyphenols, which are phenomenal for your hair, skin, joints, and weight.”

She also highlighted the specific benefits for personal care: “Olive oil is particularly full of healthy fatty acids, which are known to have significant benefits on skin and hair health. It is also rich in antioxidants and skin-friendly lipids that can help address skin concerns like dryness or rough-feeling skin.”
