The countdown to Halloween is officially on, with just days to go until the most spine-tingling day of the year.

Wherever you are in Scotland, there is plenty of fun to be had this October. However, if you are in Glasgow, then you are simply spoilt for choice when it comes to spooky activities.

Scotland’s biggest city is hosting more Halloween events than you can shake a stick at. Whether you are looking for a festive ceilidh, or are keen to fully embrace the spirit of the holiday and explore a ‘haunted’ building, there is something for you.

However, with so much on offer, it can be more than a little overwhelming deciding what sounds best. To help you choose, the Daily Record has rounded up some of the best Halloween events in Glasgow taking place throughout the month.

GlasGLOW

GlasGLOW is without a doubt one of the most iconic events of the autumn season in Glasgow, and this year it is back with an extra-scary edition. The new Halloween-themed adventure, Trick or Treat, will take visitors through “10 epic realms” of immersive sound and light displays.

Organisers say that one area, named Clowntown, might be a bit too scary for some visitors. Luckily, there is an alternate path through the attraction so you can avoid it altogether if clowns give you the creeps.

Spooktacular

Silverburn Shopping Centre’s beloved Spooktacular fairground is returning for another year. Once again, there is a mix of Halloween-themed rides to keep both adults and young ones entertained throughout October.

This year, Spooktacular has even brought a brand-new attraction to keep guests on their toes. If you are brave enough, then you can try out the high-speed pendulum Air Max for yourself.

Halloween Workshops: Hand-Building Pottery Pumpkins

A pottery workshop might not be the first thing you think of when it comes to Halloween, but who wouldn’t want to make their own ceramic pumpkin? Imagine showing off your specially decorated art piece to your friends who just got boring old regular pumpkins from the supermarket.

Hosted by The Craft Pottery Studio, the two-hour session will guide you through making three small-to-medium pottery pumpkins. You can even choose your own colour to paint them.

Glasgow: The Dark Side Tour

Anyone who has ever wanted to learn more about Glasgow’s history and secrets should definitely consider heading out on this 90-minute walking tour of the city. Led by an expert guide, you will journey back centuries in time.

Along the way you will learn about the last hanging in Scotland, the Scottish inspiration behind Frankenstein, and even tales of the city’s grave robbers. Open to those over the age of 18 only, you can be sure that you will leave feeling not only more enlightened but also suitably spooked.

The Haunted Provan Hall Tour

When it comes to Halloween, it is hard to imagine a better way to celebrate the holiday than a haunted house. Luckily, one of the oldest buildings in Glasgow is hosting a special guided tour.

On October 24 and 31, the 15th-century Provan Hall will opening its doors to Scots looking for a good spook. During the interactive tour, you will hear various tales and legends of the building’s past inhabitants that will no doubt have your hairs standing on end.

Clockwork Orange Halloween Party

Renowned Ibiza and London club night Clockwork Orange is coming to Glasgow this October for a one-of-a-kind Halloween party. If you are a music fan looking for a way to spend the holiday, this might be the ticket.

Expect some of the most iconic dance hits of the 1990s courtesy of famous acts such as Slipmatt, Utah Saints, and more. Meanwhile, Clockwork residents Andy Manston and Danny Clockwork will be providing plenty of thumping tunes as well.

Halloween Spookceilidh

If you are looking for a Halloween party with a bit more of a traditional flair, look no further than Òran Mór. The historic music and arts venue will be putting on a spooky ceilidh to celebrate the season.

Featuring mix of ghoulish decor and bustling Celtic music, it is hard to imagine a more Scottish way to spend your Halloween. Of course, spooky costumes are fully encouraged.

Castlemilk Park Pumpkin Festival

If you head to Castlemilk Park in Glasgow’s South Side at the end of the month, you will be able to immerse yourself in the hair-raising joy of its Pumpkin Festival. From October 27 all the way through to the big day itself, the park will host all kinds of events and activities to get you in the Halloween spirit.

From a special pumpkin carving workshop to a one-of-a-kind ‘Spooky Walk’ around Castlemilk Pond, there is bound to be something that appeals. Elsewhere, you can gaze in wonder at all of the pumpkins that were carved by local primary schools and members of the community as part of the festival’s Stables Illumination.
