Under-fire boss Philippe Clement faces a “defining” 10 days to keep his job at Rangers following defeat to Kilmarnock.

The lacklustre showing at Rugby Park saw the Light Blues unable to take advantage of Celtic and Aberdeen’s stalemate at the top of the Scottish Premiership – with the gap between Gers and the summit remaining at six points. The displays so far this season have seen some Rangers fans reaching for the panic button and calling for a change in the dugout with a crucial period in the season approaching.

FCSB will travel to Ibrox for their Europa League showdown before facing off against St Mirren in the league this weekend. It’s then a massive trip to Pittodrie to face Jimmy Thelin’s unbeaten Aberdeen – and Rangers’ hero Alan Hutton reckons that Clement – who is contracted until 2028 after penning a new deal at the start of the season – can’t add many more defeats to his record if he hopes to remain in the Govan hot seat.

Asked on the Scottish Football Social Club by Darrell Currie “how many more bad results the manager gets” before he is show the door, Hutton conceded: “Not very many, is the honest truth. I’ve been the one that has said they have given him the contract and they need to stop this rinse and repeat with players and managers – ‘right you need to use this squad, then somebody else comes in’ – it has to stop at some stage.

“But, I ultimately understand it’s a results business. I do think the squad is good enough to get results, especially domestically, but it’s getting the best out of them. If it doesn’t pick up – performances as well – you are in a high stakes position. You won’t last long.”

Michael Stewart then laid out the crucial games that could emerges as the deadline for the under pressure gaffer: “You talk about not getting results and he has not got any more, all you need to do is look 10 days ahead. There is a game at Pittodrie. Steaua at home, St Mirren at home and Aberdeen away. You just feel that these three games on the back of that performance and result at Rugby Park could be defining.”
