BLUEFIELD, Va. – A Richlands Town Council member and former chairman of the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors was named Bluefield University’s Alumnus of the Year during the university’s homecoming celebration over the weekend.

Seth R. White was a 2002 BU graduate and has not only served in town and country government but also as chairman of the Cumberland Plateau Planning Commission and the Virginia Coalfield Commission.

After graduating from BU and receiving the Frank S. Easley Award recognizing him as the Outstanding Business Graduate, White has worked in the banking and mortgage industry and is now branch manager and loan officer for Movement Mortgage.

White has also spent the last 20 years developing and restoring downtown Richlands and recently finished his work on revitalizing the Richlands Professional Building, a 40,000-sq.-ft. structure that is now home to CNX Resources Southern Headquarters, bringing 75 jobs to Richlands.

White is also active in the community, volunteering as a youth baseball and basketball coach.
