A second man has been arrested and charged over an alleged murder bid in Orkney.

Emergency services raced to Burnmouth Road in Kirkwall after receiving reports of a disturbance on Tuesday, October 15. Crews attended and a man and woman were found injured.

The man, 38, was taken to Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall for treatment. He was later conveyed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where he remains in a critical condition.

The woman, 39, was also taken to Balfour Hospital for treatment. Her condition is currently unknown. Detectives confirmed they are treating the incident as attempted murder.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection and is due to appear at Kirkwall Sheriff Court on Monday. A 22-year-old man was also previously arrested and charged.

He was due to appear at Kirkwall Sheriff Court on Friday.

A statement from Police Scotland reads: “A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the attempted murder of a 38-year-old man and an assault on a 39-year-old woman on Burnmouth Road, Kirkwall, Orkney. The incident took place on Tuesday, 15 October, 2024. The man and woman were both taken to hospital for treatment.

“The 29-year old is due to appear at Kirkwall Sheriff Court on Monday, 21 October, 2024. A report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.”
