The Traitors Finland postponed after contestant is murdered

The Finnish version of The Traitors has postponed airing the final episode after the murder of one the contestants.

Jaane Puhakka, Finland’s first openly gay ice hockey player, was found dead at his home on Sunday evening.

His partner, Rolf Nordmo, 66, reportedly confessed to killing him with a shotgun after they broke up several weeks ago.

The 29-year-old had been appearing on the second season of The Traitors, which airs on Nelonen and is hosted by actor and comedian Christoffer Strandberg.

The series finale has now been postponed indefinitely.

Finnish network Nelonen issued a statement on social media, captioned: ‘Information regarding the final episode of Petolliset.’

Translated, it read: ‘The final episode of the season of Petolliset was scheduled to be shown on Thursday of this week.

‘We have come to the conclusion that right now is not the right time to air an episode.

‘We will return to the question of the possible presentation of the episode later.

‘We share in the grief of Janne’s loved ones.’

Many fans commented and agreed this was the right decision, while others suggested eventually airing the episode with a tribute to Puhakka.

It’s reported that the series was filmed in February and March this year, and that Puhakka was still in the game as a Traitor, according to The London Economic.

This comes after tributes to Puhakka, including from former Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin, who shared a picture with a broken love heart emoji.

Puhakka, a former player for Espoo Blues and Espoo United, came out as gay in 2019, and was the first Finnish ice hockey player to speak about his sexuality.

Season two of The Traitors in Finland also featured drag artist Cristal Snow, radio and TV personality Jone Nikula, and rapper Dan Tolppanen.
