BECKLEY, W.Va. – In addition to announcing the date and time for the Veterans Day Parade, the City of Beckley is also looking for floats and other participants to register for the event.

American Legion Post 32, Visit Southern WV, and the City of Beckley will host the Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. Line-up will start at 9 a.m. at Park Middle School for floats and vehicles, and at 10 a.m. at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Plaza for bands, walking units, and military vehicles.

A Memory Walk and Honor Walk section will honor veterans by loved ones walking with a photo, memento, or sign in the parade.

The City of Beckley said floats should have signs on all four sides identifying the group on the flat. Awards will be given for the best overall entries and bands. An Awards Ceremony will happen after the parade at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway. Each party who participates with a float should send a representative to the Ceremony to claim the appropriate trophy.

The City said floats should not exceed 55 feet in length and no more than 13 feet high. The width of the float cannot exceed 8 feet.

For emergency vehicles, the City said loud sirens are not allowed. Another advisory said horses must be bagged or have a clean-up crew. The City also said throwing objects or candy from a float or vehicle is not allowed, but instead have someone walk alongside passing out candy.
