Inverness have been deducted 15 points after falling into administration as the Highland horror worsens.

The Highlanders now face a major battle to retain their League One status after seeing their total league points go from 12 to -3 with Duncan Ferguson and his troops now bottom with nearest challengers Dumbarton sitting on nine points.

It’s been a rollercoaster of drama at Caley Thistle as they battled to raise funds to avoid falling into their current scenario. A Go Fund Me was set up to try to bring in £200,000 but that failed to raise 50 per cent of the hoped target with the total just sitting at over £87K. Boss Ferguson also took a large pay cut to help with the costs at the club.

The manager has also been picking up the bill for Inverness players’ PETROL and other day to day costs on top of his 40 per cent wage drop over the summer. Now the doomsday news has been confirmed.

An SPFL statement reads: “The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has today confirmed the imposition of a 15-point deduction for Inverness Caledonian Thistle, as per SPFL rules on clubs suffering an insolvency event. The William Hill League One table has been updated accordingly.”

James Stephen, Malcom Cohen and Shane Crookes at BDO have been appointed joint administrators at Inverness. They will now aim to secure the long term future of the club.

A spokesperson at BDO said: “We can confirm a formal appointment has been made and Inverness Caledonian Thistle is now in administration. We understand this will be a difficult and uncertain time for the club, its staff, its loyal fan base and the local community. The Administrators will be in a position to provide further information and their plan to seek to secure the long term future of the club in due course.”
