The toxicology report on the late Liam Payne’s body is reportedly still pending. The singer tragically passed away at the age of 31 last Wednesday while in Argentina.
Authorities are said to be continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the father-of-one’s fatal fall from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires. A post-mortem examination has reportedly determined that he died from ‘multiple injuries‘.
Sky News reports that a representative of the public prosecutor’s office met with his father, Geoff Payne, who is in the country, to update him on the investigation into Liam’s death. Andrés Esteban Madrea reportedly informed him that the toxicology and histopathological exams have not yet been completed and their results are needed before the body can be released to the family.
This follows earlier news that preliminary toxicology findings indicate that cocaine was present in his system at the time of death. The quantity of the drug found in his body is currently unknown.
As reported by the Mirror, final toxicology results are still pending and may not be made public for several weeks, reports the Mirror.
Materials retrieved from Liam’s body during an autopsy following his passing on Wednesday confirmed the existence of a class-A substance, revealed Infobae. ABC News has reported that among the detected drugs was “pink cocaine”, notorious for its dangerous blend of MDMA, ketamine, methamphetamine, cocaine, benzodiazepine, and crack.
The side effects reported by users, which can be acute and even fatal, include euphoria, heightened alertness, and intensifying of the senses. However, UK Addiction Treatment Centres warns these effects can also result in unpleasant reactions such as anxiety, paranoia, panic attacks, and hallucinations.
The tragic news recently surfaced that One Direction’s Liam passed away instantly from a multitude of injuries, including a skull fracture, sustained after falling from a hotel balcony. Early autopsy findings, accessed by newspaper Clarín, indicated “multiple trauma” and “internal and external bleeding” as the causes behind Liam’s death.

These examinations were carried out at the Supreme Court morgue late on Wednesday by a pair of forensic professionals, according to local coverage.
On Monday, reports emerged that the cause of his death is being treated as ‘inconclusive’, following a post-mortem examination which found that Liam died from multiple injuries after falling. It has been reported that lead investigator, Prosecutor Marcelo Roma, has requested histopathological, biochemical and toxicological studies to determine whether the singer was drugged and intoxicated at the time of his death.
As previously reported, results are expected within 10 to 15 days, with Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office currently treating his death as ‘inconclusive’. Media speculation suggests that Liam’s funeral could take place next month, with the investigation potentially concluding in the coming days.
However, his family may face an inquest into Liam’s death back in the UK. Liam leaves behind his seven year old son Bear, whom he shared with his ex-partner Cheryl.
