BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – A new clinical affiliation was kicked off today at WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital with the grand opening of the New Cardiology Clinic.

This launches the affiliation with the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, which is rated one of the top 10 percent cardiac surgery programs in the nation. The new Cardiac Clinic brings PCH’s top-performing providers and physicians into the main hospital to better serve the needs of inpatient, outpatient and emergency patients.

Dr. George Soros, Chair of the Department of Cardiology at WVU Medicine in Morgantown, said he is excited about being there for the grand opening of the clinic on the PCH campus.

“It allows us a lot of versatility with our physicians to be not only in the office but to go back and forth to see patients in the hospital when we need them to. And it really, more than that, it is a convenience for our patients … We want to make it easy for our patients to get the care they need.”

Soros said it is a more than $100,000 investment into PCH and the step to where cardiology is going in providing expanded services to the community, including a heart failure clinic.

The hospital will make it a priority to keep patients here if they can but if they need to be moved they can be moved quickly to the appropriate place.

“The future is extremely bright here in Princeton,” he said.

Dr. Stephen Ward is interventional cardiologist at WVU Medicine PCH and said the new clinic started seeing patients last week and today was a celebration of that, as well as having six patient rooms rather than four and all six are bigger and more efficient. More testing is also available.

Ward said it also allows him to take care of emergencies faster and allows the hospital to take better care of people in the region, especially with the electronic patient records that can be accessed in the WVU Medicine system when consultations are needed.

“It is important to provide this for our community and I think it is worthwhile,” he said.

The new WVU Heart and Vascular Institute Cardiology Clinic at Princeton Community Hospital is located on Floor 3 of the PCH North Tower (formerly Parkview).
