AUSTIN, Texas — Update: Austin police say they’re searching for a dark-colored SUV involved with this crash. The original story continues below.

A pedestrian was killed in an alleged hit-and-run early Saturday morning on Interstate 35.

The Austin Police Department (APD) said just after 5 a.m., officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 5000 block of North I-35 northbound. The adult pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to APD, the driver of the vehicle did not stop to render aid and instead drove off.

The crash caused portions of the interstate in Austin to close for extended periods Saturday morning.

APD said this crash is being investigated as Austin’s 19th fatal collision of 2024, resulting in 19 deaths. On March 23, 2023, 24 fatal crashes had resulted in 24 deaths.
