An ambitious plan to bring a huge leisure complex to Kilmarnock town centre has been launched.

Escape rooms and a rage room form part of a bid to transform disused space above the Burns Mall at the Cross.

The vast site, comprising of 584 sq m, would also have an Atari / games console room as well as a virtual reality space too.

Blueprints show proposals for at least three escape rooms being developed along with a multi-purpose room forming a chunk of the application.

The site was formerly occupied by the PRA Group, who are now based at the Halo centre.

Darvel man John Barclay is the applicant behind the ambitious plans formed by Game Vault Ayrshire Ltd.

Escape rooms have been a hugely popular over the past decade or so.

If plans are approved, it would be Ayrshire’s first rage room.

Scotland’s first rage room, based in Glasgow, closed earlier this year.

The concept saw punters don a boiler suit, gloves, a balaclava, goggles, body armour and a shield mask so they could smash up PC accessories, pottery, laptops and even TVs.

East Ayrshire Council planners will rule on the planning application to change the use of the office space to leisure facilities at a future date.
