A “Scottish” man is believed to have died while diving off the coast of Majorca. Local reports have described the 49-year-old as being from Scotland.

He got into difficulties around 11am today at Cala d’Or, a resort area on the southeast coast of the holiday island. Four dive companions, thought to be friends, are said to have been with him at the time.

It’s understood they helped him out of the water and began trying to resuscitate him before medical emergency responders took over after he reached dry land.

There was nothing they could do to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Civil Guard have launched a routine investigation. The police force could not be reached for comment this afternoon.

It was not immediately clear if the Scottish man was in Majorca on holiday or if he emigrated to Spain and lives on the Balearic island.

At the start of the month a 75-year-old British man was found dead after going diving by the Malgrats Islands, two uninhabited islets opposite the Bay of Santa Ponsa a short drive from the holiday resort of Magaluf.

A Civil Protection boat made the grim discovery around 4pm on October 1 and recovered his body before taking it to Santa Ponsa Yacht Club.

He is understood to have been wearing just a mask and swim shorts when he was found. A friend had reported him missing before he was found.
