BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Members of the Tazewell County School Board were recognized with Virginia School Board Association Academy Awards during the October school board meeting. There are five levels of awards, with certificates and pins awarded for particular levels.

The Virginia School Board Association recognizes board members for dedication, time, and hard work in improving boardmanship skills through VSBA meetings, conferences, board development and training, and active involvement. Members earn credits credits based on participation from July 1 through June 30 of each year.

David Woodard earned the VSBA Award of Distinction for earning 84 credits in two years, and received a certificate and a starfish pin. Chair Chris Moir earned the VSBA Award of Honor for earning 66 credits in two years. Moir received a certificate and a gold pin. Board members Irene Mullins and Vice-Chair Donna Whittington earned the VSBA Award of Excellence for earning 48 credits in two years. Both received a certificate and a silver pin. Erik Robinson was awarded the VSBA Award of Recognition for earning 15 credits and received a certificate.
