Johnstone Burgh have submitted major plans to upgrade their Keanie Park ground.

An application was lodged with Renfrewshire Council in August to outline the West of Scotland League (WoSFL) club’s proposals for the site.

Within the application, the plans include the installation of a 4G astroturf surface, the erection of four new lighting columns to the west of the site as well as replacing the four existing lighting columns at the east of the pitch.

The proposed development continues by stating that there will be landscaping, outdoor amenity space, as well as the installation of a portable toilet block and a prefabricated spectator stand.

A planning statement said the improved lighting was essential to the club’s ability to host fixtures midweek. It reads: “It is designed to maximise the use of the pitch, with the ability to use the ground in winter months and for evening games. This is a mandatory requirement for the SFA so it’s vital for the club to install them.”

The application was submitted by Glasgow-based firm GlenEtive Projects on behalf of Scott Graham, a club director. It was validated by the local authority on Monday, October 7. A decision on the application will be made at a later date.

A statement within the application went on to say: “The overall vision is to create a community club for all groups within the local community to use… and improvements to the pitch, club and facility to allow access to all groups and disabilities. Overall, the proposals would make a positive contribution to the local sports and health and wellbeing in Johnstone.”

Burgh play in the WoSFL Premier Division and reached the semi-finals of the Junior Cup last season.
