Scots actress Jane McCarry, best known for her role of Isa Drennan in Still Game, has sent a sweet message of support to her former co-star Chris McCausland as he competes on Strictly Come Dancing.
Chris, 47, is the first blind contestant to ever compete on the BBC dance show, and has quickly became a fan favourite with his most recent waltz performance with dance partner Dianne Buswell moving viewers to tears.
The comedian performed their emotional routine to the Liverpool anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ with Diane, in a nod to Chris’ beloved home city and football club.
Still Game star Jane McCarry has now taken to Instagram to send her support to Chris, who she previously starred alongside in the 2006 CBeebies show Me Too!
Sharing a snap from an old scene on the children’s show, Jane’s character Granny Murray can be seen embracing Chris, who played Rudi in the series.
Sharing a loving message to the Strictly star, she wrote: “Now remember Chris, a pickle a day and you’ll win all the way. Love Granny Murray xx”
Fans of the Me Too! show, which aired for two seasons, were delighted with the throwback snap as they fled to the comments to reminisce.
One wrote: “Thanks Granny Murray, I’ll see ya later. Bye bye my darling, we’ll be thinking of you. Me Too. Now, you keep a wee eye on Rudi & make sure he goes the right way to work #MeTooComeBack”
Another said: “We watch Granny Murray EVERY DAY. The songs are EPIC.” While others finally realised where they had seen the Strictly star before as someone else commented: “Omg! I totally forgot he was in Me Too!!”
Jane’s message of support comes after Chris’ ‘mortifying’ comment to Diane Buswell on Strictly which was picked up by their hidden mics.
Chris was heard asking Dianne: “Did I do okay?” following their performance to ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ which was sung on the night by fellow Liverpudlian and Strictly vocalist Tommy Blaize.
Diane is believed to have replied: “You did so good,” before giving him more gushing words of praise and encouragement as they made their way over to host Tess Daly for the judge’s verdict with Chris emotionally collapsing into her shoulder.
The candid moment saw Strictly fans rushing to social media to reassure Chris he had done ‘more than okay’ and that he has ‘no idea’ how good he really is.
After discovering the moment had been picked up by his mic on live TV, Chris said: “I didn’t realise the microphones would pick up what I was saying to you. I said, ‘Did I do good, Di?’ I didn’t know that would get picked up by the microphones and I was so embarrassed when I heard that back.”
He added while mocking himself: “I was mortified. ‘Did I do good, Mummy? Did I draw a good picture’.” Dianne replied: “It was very sweet Chris!”
