This is the moment a man allegedly raided a Scots shop for cans of Dragon Soop – making off from the store in question without paying for the booze.

The footage was captured on a CCTV camera within a store in Edinburgh yesterday afternoon. Owner Mohammad Fayyaz posted the clip on social media following the alleged theft.

The alleged incident took place at around 5.40pm yesterday, Tuesday, October 22, 2024, within the Post Office on the city’s Dalkeith Road.

Mohammad was unable to catch the man and labelled the incident “wrong” and said “it shouldn’t be happening”. He took to social media to share the man’s image, warning other businesses and to help the police investigate.

According to Mohammad, the man was with another individual and both of them cycled off after he left the store. He said: “They were on bikes and went towards Prestonfield through the lights.”

Edinburgh Live added he said: “He just came in, took three cans of dragon soup and walked out. It was just so quick but I went outside and there was another guy, both of them on bikes.

“I phoned the police and they’re coming out tomorrow (Thursday). They looked about 25 and I haven’t seen them in the shop before. All day you’re working hard for your business and people just come in, take stuff and walk out.

“That shouldn’t be happening and if nothing happens to them and they get away with it then it’ll just keep happening. If you want something you have to pay for it, that’s how it works.

“It’s not like something you need desperately like food if you’re hungry. If you don’t have the money, don’t buy it.” Footage of the incident shows the man walking into the shop.

He then headed beyond the counter to where the drinks are displayed, before helping himself to several cans and walking back out the door in front of staff.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6pm on Tuesday, 22 October, we received a report of a theft from a premises on Dalkeith Road in Edinburgh. Enquiries are at an early stage.”
