Clyde have confirmed they have appointed Darren Young as their new manager.

Lanarkshire Live Sport revealed this morning that the Bully Wee were set to appoint the former Albion Rovers and East Fife gaffer to replace Ian McCall after his exit last week.

And a club statement has now announced the former Aberdeen midfielder will take charge with immediate effect.

His first game will be in the Scottish Cup second round on Saturday when the Bully Wee travel to Elgin City, but his main task will be to try and haul the club off the bottom of League Two, where they are currently one point adrift of nearest rivals Forfar.

Darren Young said: “I’m delighted to be here. We’ve been speaking over the last few days, trying to get something over the line and ironed out.

“I think Clyde are in a false position in the league. There’s a very good squad here and I am looking forward to working with the boys. The skill and quality is there in abundance. We need that solid foundation to then kick-on, allowing the creative players and strikers to get the goals to back it up.

“They haven’t had the best start to the season, but one win and you are up to fifth or six so one win could kick-start the season.”

Clyde chairman Allan Maitland said: “I’m very excited to welcome Darren to the club. He has a proven track record and expertise in this league, with two titles to his name already despite still being a relatively young manager.

“There is still a long way to go in the season and I am very confident in Darren’s abilities to turn things around for the club on the park as we aim to climb the table.”

Neil Scally will continue in his role as Assistant Manager, while coach Mark Kerr is leaving his coaching role.

A club statement added: “The club extends its thanks to Mark for his hard work and dedication, which played a significant part in maintaining our League 2 status, and wish him the very best for the future.”
