A doctor has taken to TikTok to outline three habits that can help maintain a healthy heart, after Jeremy Clarkson’s health condition.

The Top Gear star Jeremy Clarkson has opened up about his recent health scare that he described as a “sudden deterioration” in his health.

Clarkson confessed that he experienced difficulty climbing the stairs whilst he was swimming on holiday, as his condition worsened day by day.

Whilst speaking to the Sunday Times, Clarkson had said that doctors had warmed him he was just “days away” from becoming extremely ill. Commenting on his condition, he said: “Crikey, that was close.”

He is working on himself by having a complete lifestyle change amidst the scare, in hopes to prevent further health issues, reports the Surrey Live.

Commenting on his new regime, he noted: “wondering what water tastes like and if it’s possible to make celery interesting.”

But what else could Clarkson do to lower his chances of heart problems?

TikTok’s Dr Sood may have some answers, having shared three key practices for maintaining heart health on the social media platform. “Here are three tips to improve your cardiovascular health,” he informed.

Eat a healthy diet

Dr Sood highlighted the importance a diet full of fruit and vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins has on the body, as well as being beneficial for your mental health.

He advised: “This will make sure you get adequate nutrients and fibre,” adding that one should “also opt for healthy fats like avocados and olive oil, while limiting trans fat and saturated fat.”

Additionally, he recommended limiting your intake of processed food as most of them are high in sodium, and to use spice to add flavour rather than salt.

Maintain an exercise routine

“It is recommended to engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity, or 75 minutes of high intensity, exercise per week,” Dr Sood said.

He also emphasised the importance of incorporating “both strength training and aerobic exercise” into your routine.

Exercises include walking, running, cycling and swimming are strong opinions to help avoid heart problems.

Manage stress

To manage your stress levels Dr Sood recommended practising mindfulness techniques.

Taking up a new hobby such as yoga or meditation, or even enjoying walks in nature could help with this. As well as getting a good nights sleep.

Avoiding smoking and limiting your alcohol consumption are also essential for better heart health.
