A man has appeared in court charged over the murder of John Taylor in Kilwinning.

The 44-year-old was found with serious injuries outside his home on the North Ayrshire town’s Pollock Crescent at around 1.55pm on Friday, October 18. Emergency crews raced to the incident but Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kiey O’Connor, 29, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court earlier today charged with Taylor’s murder. O’Connor, of North Ayrshire, was also charged with an attempt to defeat the ends of justice.

He made no plea or declaration. O’Connor was remanded in custody while the case was committed for further examination.

He will reappear in the dock within the next eight days. Meanwhile, images from the scene showed multiple police vehicles in attendance outside Taylor’s address last week while a quad bike was left on the road.

Detective Chief Inspector Graham McCreadie, Major Investigation Teams West, said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Taylor’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time. They are being supported by specially trained officers and have asked that their privacy is respected.

“I am still keen to speak to anyone else who was in the area at the time, and may have seen or heard anything suspicious. Please get in touch with officers if you can help. Any information could prove vital to getting answers for Mr Taylor’s family.

“We would also urge anyone who was in the Pollock Crescent and surrounding area with a dashcam to check your footage as you may have captured something which could be of significance to our investigation.”
