A man was attacked with poles during a violent brawl which broke out in the middle of a road in broad-daylight.
Police launched a probe after receiving reports of men armed with weapons fighting on Lower Breck Road in Liverpool at around 4pm on Tuesday. Ambulance crews attended and three men were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Police arrived at the scene and three men, aged 41, 36 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of assault. As reported by the Liverpool Echo, a white Ford van could be seen to have a smashed windscreen behind a cordon.
A woman at the scene said an assault involving “metal rods” had taken place and there was “blood all over the floor”. The condition of the three men who were taken to hospital is currently unknown.
A video shared by our sister title, which is also circling on social media, appears to show the incident unfolding. In the horrifying footage two men could be seen armed with what appears to be metal poles.
They can then be seen striking another man, who is on the floor in the road, with force, before the man gets up and is then tackled to the floor once more. At one point the man who is on the floor can be seen putting his hands up in the air and attempting to crawl off, before he is struck again with the pole on his back and on his legs. He then gets up and runs off while also carrying a pole of his own.
A group of men can then be seen running over to where the fight is taking place and can be seen attempting to get the attacker’s metal pole off him, before they run out of shot.
In further footage a man can be seen being violently attacked on the pavement, at which point someone driving past shouts “lad, lad”. It is not known whether the footage features any of the three men who were arrested in connection with the incident.
A number of shops and businesses within the cordon were closed after the incident. There is also a primary school and a children’s centre within the area sealed off.
Chief Inspector Paul Rannard said: “We are in the very early stages of an investigation and a cordon remains in place at the scene as officers carry out the initial inquiries. This is a shocking incident that occurred in a busy area of Anfield and would have been witnessed by members of the community. Please be reassured that we are taking this extremely seriously and we have already made three arrests.
“If you witnessed what happened or have any information, please come forward. Similarly, if you live in the area or happened to be driving past, please check your CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to see if you captured anything. Even if it appears insignificant, please get in touch as it could prove vital to our inquiries.
“We are determined to establish the full circumstances of this incident. While we do this, it’s vital that people avoid speculation, especially on social media, which could unnecessarily increase anxiety and fear in the community.”
