ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (WOIO/Gray News) – An Ohio mother who left her three children home alone while she went to Florida was handed down a sentence this week for her actions.

Domonique Knowles, 32, was convicted of two counts of child endangerment for leaving her kids, a 10-year-old girl and 7-year-old twins with special needs, by themselves for nearly three days earlier this year.

She was sentenced in Rocky River Municipal Court on Wednesday to 360 days of house arrest and five years probation.

Westlake police said Knowles checked in on her children remotely while she was out of town with security cameras, and she would also speak to them periodically through Facetime.

But when officers arrived at the home, they said the apartment was found in filthy condition with liquid spilled all over the floor. While officers were there one of the twin girls also slipped and fell.

Police were called to the apartment by a Westlake elementary school teacher who requested a welfare check when she learned they were home alone.

Knowles initially denied leaving the state, but investigators said they were able to prove she spent two nights in Miami with her children back home.
