A ghost-hunting family, often compared to the Addams Family, have dedicated a room in their house to ‘haunted‘ objects and plan to camp there this Halloween.

JP Kennedy, 34, and Kymmi Jeffery, 39, along with their daughters Snow, 11, and Pebble, eight, moved into their Winsford, Cheshire home in 2022 and suspected it was haunted. The family, who embrace their spooky lifestyle, have set up cameras, bought a hearse they affectionately named Morticia, and go on ghost hunts to add to their collection of eerie items sent from around the globe.

They’re so committed to their ghostly passion that they’ll return any items that don’t meet their supernatural standards.

“Halloween is every day for us,” they say, and to celebrate, they’re planning an overnight stay in their ‘haunted room’. JP, a teacher by profession, shared: “We converted our garage and turned it into our ‘haunted room’ – but we have so many things it’s overflowing.

“The girls aren’t fearful, they absolutely love it. They run towards noise, not away.

“People have asked if we make the kids do ghost hunts with us, but we don’t. It’s just what they want to do!” When the couple first moved in, they mistook a sulfur smell for a gas leak, but after an engineer found no issues, the mysterious odor disappeared.

JP remarked: “Sulfur smells can be associated with demons.”

Kymmi, a therapist, started hearing eerie sounds at night including the weeping of a girl. The couple became so enthralled after spotting an apparition on camera during a ghost tour in August 2022 that they launched their own spirit-hunting enterprise.

Their daughters, Snow and Pebble, were eager to join their parents’ spectral escapades, accompanying JP and Kymmi to explore haunted haunts. Outings for the family often involve their unique vehicle of choice—a Hearse—that attracts onlookers eager to snap pictures of this atypical family ride.

Recalling one memorable event, JP said: “We stopped off at the shops in our Hearse near a church once,” only to have “a vicar come out and start pouring holy water on the Hearse”.

They’re a clan fascinated with collecting spine-tingling artefacts; those considered genuinely haunted are accorded pride of place in their ominous room. Among their creepy collection, as JP detailed, is a supposedly possessed Tamagotchi, a doll named Annie bestowed by a former ghost hunter, a malevolent dybbuk box, an ill-fated prom dress, and a ‘daycare doll’ named Rebecca.

Elaborating on their eerie array, JP added: “The prom dress is from America, and it was worn by a girl who was in a car crash on the way to her prom. Rebecca came with a colouring book and the pages change.

“We have a supposedly ‘killer clown’ coming over from America which was present at a shooting in an arcade years ago.

“We get sent things all the time, and we’ll give them a two-week trial. If they aren’t haunted, we send them back.”

The family is gearing up for a unique Halloween celebration by camping out in their notoriously haunted room. JP shared: “We’ll get all our haunted items out at once and see what spirits we can pick up.

“Some people think things we’ve seen are fake, but that means they’ve just not experienced that thing for themselves yet.”

The family also plans to welcome the public into their eerie space, with JP noting, “We’ll also open the room up to the public – we’ve had people from as far away as Newcastle wanting to visit.”
