A new true-crime documentary This is the Zodiac Speaking has been released on Netflix today (Wednesday, October 23).

The three-part series delves into one of the most infamous unsolved serial killer cases in history, which took place in Northern California during the late 60s.

The documentary follows a family’s quest for answers, sharing intriguing clues and shocking testimonies about the prime suspect. The Zodiac killer is known to have murdered at least five victims between December 1968 and October 1969, but due to insufficient evidence, no arrests were ever made.

Arthur Leigh was suspected by police to be the Zodiac killer, but he was never arrested due to lack of evidence. Leigh passed away in 1992, leaving the families of the victims without justice or closure as the case remained open.

Throughout the three-part documentary, several individuals, including those who personally knew Arthur, come forward to share their testimonies.

Among those interviewed were David and Connie Seawater, who used to go on weekend trips with Arthur, a local school teacher they described as being like a father to them.

Both David and Connie revealed their belief that Arthur was responsible for the killings. It was suggested that the murders ceased when Arthur was arrested for child molestation in 1974, reports the Mirror.

He was incarcerated for three years, which was followed by a five-year stint on felony probation that lasted until 1982.

Connie disclosed in the documentary her belief that Arthur had previously insinuated to her his identity as the murderer.

Whilst sailing together in 1991, Connie remembered directly asking Arthur if he was the killer.

She alleged that his response was if he told her the truth, he’d have to kill her too, which she assumed was just “big joke”.

David revealed that Arthur had phoned him in distress, apparently confessing to drugging them as children and sexually abusing Connie.

Upon confronting him about being the Zodiac killer after his admission of guilt, David claimed Arthur had answered in the affirmative.

Despite these revelations, Phyllis, the Seawater children’s mother, always stood by Arthur, never accepting the possibility of him being a serial killer or predator.

In the series, siblings David and Connie exposed their discovery of correspondence from 2017 between Arthur and their mother.

As they delved into the letters, one chilling excerpt stated: “Seeing a murder headline would turn my palms sweaty,” while another ominous line penned by Arthur read: “The most dangerous thing is when I almost decided to confess.”

This is the Zodiac Speaking is streaming on Netflix now.
