LONDON, Ky. (WKYT/Gray News) – It’s been several days since a violent crash, and the signs of what happened in London, Kentucky, are still fresh.

“There was a lot of chaos and praying in the parking lot,” Sarah Prewitt said after hearing the crash and seeing the reaction nearby Friday morning.

Prewitt says a lot of people rushed to try to help after a dump truck and a Chevy Tahoe collided on Kentucky Route 192, then both ended up in a creek after crashing through a bridge.

State police confirmed Christopher Russell was seriously hurt when his Tahoe collided with the truck.

“They were able to get the baby. Chris was stuck and had to be cut out,” Prewitt said.

On Sunday, his 3-year-old son Ezekiel, who was a passenger in the SUV, died.

“He is being remembered as a hero. So far, as organ donations, his family says he is a 100% match for his kidneys and a 100% match for his liver,” Prewitt added.

Several fundraisers, including a GoFundMe, have been started to help the Russell family with his medical bills and household expenses, as well as his daughters, who attend a Christian school in the area.

“It’s devastating for the community. Chris was just a dad taking his girls to school,” Prewitt said.

People say they’ve seen a lot of crashes in the area, some of which have been serious.

“They wanted me to say we need lights here. They need to do something different,” Prewitt said.
