Gabby Agbonlahor raved about Celtic’s Champions League exploits in Bergamo.

The former Aston Villa striker waxed lyrical over the performance of Brendan Rodgers’ men in their stalemate with Atalanta. The pundit was left impressed by the complete opposite display that they put up in Dortmund on matchday two when they got, as he describes, “absolutely battered'”.

Speaking on the talkSPORT breakfast show, the 38-year-old listed three key traits from the performance in the backyard of the Europa League holders that really caught his eye. He reckons the point – that makes it four points from three games – means it has been a decent start for Celtic at Europe’s top table as he declared they’ve got a chance of reaching the knockout rounds of the Champions League – but they have to win their home games.

He said: “You’ve got to give a shout out to Celtic last night. I watched the Celtic game at 5.45pm and they done the opposite of Dortmund when they got absolutely battered.

“They were more compact and throwing bodies in front of the ball. Schmeichel in goals was outstanding with some amazing saves. They showed grit, fight and defensive responsibilities. I am sure Brendan will be so proud of them. Arsenal drew there as well this season in the Champions League. Tough place to go, we know that. So I think Celtic deserve a shout out.

“They were just at it Celtic in the defensive part. Yes, they found it hard to get forward but they were throwing their bodies in front of the ball. You know those team performances that are like ‘yeah, let’s go there and a get a draw’. It’s not a bad start for Celtic, four points after three games. They’ve got a chance. Got to win their home games.”
