The director of the Venom franchise revealed that she was tired of the character’s casual attire – particularly known for sweaty tops and Hawaiian shirts – and wanted to make a cheeky nod to the James Bond rumours that have been surrounding the star in the latest Venom movie.
Marcel revealed that she chose to dress hardy in a suit – a debonair choice for the Bond hopeful – and a cheeky wink to the audience.
‘There’s always been these rumours about [Tom] playing James Bond,’ Marcel admitted in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
‘So I may have been showing what Tom Hardy’s James Bond might look like.’
The director has also been rumoured to be one of the directors shortlisted to direct the new Bond, alongside Edward Berger, David Michod, Yann Demange and Bart Layton.
‘That’s an extraordinary list to be on. I was flabbergasted,’ Marcel says. ‘There’s never been a female Bond director, and of course, when you see something like that, it’s just incredibly humbling. So I’m grateful to be mentioned alongside any of those brilliant, brilliant directors.’
Hardy isn’t the only actor rumoured to become the next Bond. The Gentleman’s Theo James, ’s Callum Turner, Bridgerton’s , and One Day’s Leo Woodhall are all in the mix to play the iconic character.
