The Chase fans were left searching for hankies after presenter Bradley Walsh stopped the show for a deeply moving moment.

In a re-run of the popular ITV quiz, a fresh group of hopefuls was introduced by Walsh, all eager to win some serious cash.

Contestants Rhys, Ann, Bethan and Darren joined the show, ready to take on their knowledge challenge, facing the tough Chaser Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis, Leeds Live reports.

But it was contestant Ann who captured attention with her touching story as she spoke about her husband’s recent diagnosis of dementia, which he received as COVID-19 struck. She seized a moment to highlight her husband’s situation, saying, “Could I make a plug for my husband?”

Walsh warmly encouraged her with a comforting: “Plug away darling.” Ann took the chance to say: “His name is John, he is in a care home and they’ll all be watching. Can you say hello to John and all the staff.”

Walsh immediately obliged, turning to the camera with a sincere address: “John, lots of love to you mate, everyone looking after everyone there, and especially those looking after John.”

His subsequent comments showed his compassion: “Thank you so, so much from myself and Ann. Lots of love,” before deftly shifting the atmosphere back to the game, jovially asking, “Now are you ready to play?”

Emotions ran high for viewers watching the latest episode of X – formerly Twitter – with many taking to the web to express their heartfelt reactions to the moving scenes. A viewer commented: “Got something in my eye,” while another remarked: “Oh Ann! What a babe.”

The sentiments continued, with one sharing: “I’m crying and I haven’t even burnt the dinner yet,” and yet another expressing: “This is breaking my heart.”

Contestant Ann made a memorable impact, securing a substantial £6,000 in her intense round and joining Rhys who matched her sum; together they eyed a combined potential prize of £12,000.

As Bethan added £3,000 to the pot after making it through to the final and Darren soared through with a commendable £5,000, the group’s total hopeful winnings skyrocketed to an impressive £20,000.

The finale was nothing short of thrilling, yet despite the team amassing 16 correct answers, they were ultimately outsmarted by The Menace, who caught up with a mere 12 seconds to spare, leaving the competitors to leave with nothing.
