Lorraine Kelly’s son-in-law Steve White has revealed that he has stopped drinking alcohol as he embraces life as a father in a brand new TikTok series about navigating parenthood.
The 30-year-old, who welcomed baby Billie with Lorraine’s daughter Rosie-Kelly Smith in August, has been regularly sharing advice to new parents in his ‘Dad Diaries’ series on social media, which recently received praise from the ITV host as she shared one of his recent clips to her Instagram.
In a separately uploaded video, Steve opened up about his decision to give up booze earlier this year as he admitted he knew he couldn’t ‘cope with hangovers and parenting a child at the same time.’
Steve told his followers that he drank alcohol in social situations from the ages of 18 to 29 and while he’s never had a real problem with drinking, he admitted that he used it as a ‘tool’ to make him ‘feel more confident’ when socialising.
Speaking to the camera, he said: “What I’ve always struggled with is the after effects of alcohol like the hangovers and the anxiety that followed the next day and as I got older with every year each negative side effect got worse. Hangovers became two day events even from not much alcohol at all.
“I’d be wasting whole weekends on my sofa, horizontal, scrolling social media, eating junk food and just feeling absolutely terrible about myself.”
However, Steve decided to make a permanent change around a month before he welcomed his first child with Rosie. He revealed: “I was further motivated by the fact my daughter was due to be born in a month.
“I knew I couldn’t hack hangovers as it is let alone while parenting a newborn so I quit. Will I ever drink again? I am not sure I feel like calling yourself sober for life is too much of a label and too much pressure but definitely for the first dew years of parenting I won’t be drinking.”
Steve also revealed that he completed the Edinburgh marathon with his friends earlier this year and started to prioritise his new found love of running over a few drinks at the pub.
Lorraine Kelly recently applauded her son-in-law Steve’s ‘Dad Diaries’ series as she shared one of his latest episodes titled ‘Dad Diaries Episode 24 Restaurants With A Newborn Baby’ on her Instagram.
The ITV host praised Steve as she captioned the clip: “More sound advice from @stevewhite94 and it really does make a difference when staff are so helpful and welcoming.”
In the clip, Steve discussed the challenges of bringing your baby to a restaurant for the first time as he offered advice on how to pick the right place for your child and how to prepare for all situations in public.
Steve and Rosie welcomed baby Billie on August 29 and have been regularly sharing updates of their adorable daughter on social media.
