Squid Game debuted three years ago, if you can believe it, and its tense, shocking and inventive brand of dystopian horror made it an instant classic. A second series is set to drop on Boxing Day and, to celebrate, Netflix has teamed up with legendary whisky company Johnnie Walker for a special edition of the classic Black Label.

Over at Amazon, you can land a 70cl limited edition bottle of Johnnie Walker’s Black Label for just £23. Not only is that down from £36, but this limited run is numbered 001 to 456 in reference to Squid Game’s contestants, and Johnnie Walker’s iconic Striding Man dons an iconic green tracksuit from the show.

Aged for 12 years, this smooth whisky’s flavour profile covers spice, vanilla and sweet fruit with smoky top notes. Johnnie Walker suggests enjoying the Black Label neat, but it’s also a great option for such cocktails as a John Collins, old fashioned or Irish coffee.

“Anyone who knows the name of Johnnie Walker will know they are going to get a very good whisky, and this really hits the mark,” said one happy customer. “I have had their Black Label before and enjoy it. This has a smoky flavour and yet is still sweet – very smooth… My partner is enjoying this on the rocks or even warm, straight from the bottle after dinner, whereas it is a little strong for me and I prefer to have it mixed with ginger ale as a long drink.” A second five-star review said: “Love this design and one for my whiskey collection. Tastes beautiful too.”

Another added: “Johnnie Walker Black Label is a well-known product and this batch tastes exactly as it should do. It goes well in a cocktail – my favourite is an old fashioned and this goes well in that.”

Some have noted that the special edition numbering might not connote uniqueness. “Probably multiple sets? Lose stars for that,” said one review, adding: “But the drink itself as we all know is 5 stars!” If you’re not already familiar with Black Label, there’s a chance it won’t be to your tastes. “Very disappointed, expected a smooth sipping Scotch instead got a bottle of burnt rocket fuel,” said one such customer.

If you’re interested in similarly full-bodied whiskies, a litre of Jack Daniels is £35 at Tesco. Or if you’d prefer to try something from Ireland, a 1L bottle of Jameson’s Triple Distilled Blended Irish Whiskey is currently reduced to £28 from £34.50 over at Ocado.

However, if you’re a Squid Game and whisky fan, a collector, or a gift-giver for any of the above, £23 for this special edition Johnnie Walker Black Label is an absolute bargain.
