A frugal woman has transformed her knack for selling unwanted items online into a profitable business, amassing a stunning £87,000. She’s got some simple yet effective tips to help others increase their sales too.

Now might be the ideal time for a good clear-out if you’re swamped with clothes you no longer wear, and turning to online selling could be a wise choice. While eBay, Depop, and Facebook Marketplace are established hubs for selling second-hand clothing, Vinted has become a strong competitor.

Irem has turned her hobby into a formidable full-time Vinted enterprise and boasts about creating a “six-figure business at the age of 20”. The content creator detailed her experience, saying: “After selling my own clothes on Depop I started to go around charity shops as I loved finding cool pieces. I had a few sales every now and then but I still kept going as I enjoyed it so much.”

Her commitment eventually led to an increase in sales and she noted: “Sales started to increase and I became a top seller. I hit 1,000 sales within a few months, spent my days packing orders and decided it was time to scale my business and found some wholesale suppliers as charity shops weren’t enough anymore.”

Her move to Vinted has seen her accumulate an impressive £87,967.85 and she’s even launched her own website named Past Gems. The savvy seller has now divulged her top five tips on her TikTok page, where she has amassed over 16,000 followers. Irem’s initial advice is to post items for sale regularly on the platform.

She said: “So let’s say you have 20 items to sell – do five for four a day instead of uploading all in one.” She also highlighted the significance of capturing clear images of your products. A simple background aids potential buyers in clearly viewing the items and “make sure the lighting is good”, Irem recommended.

She suggests investing in a ring light or white backdrop if you’re not already equipped with one at home. Irem further advised: “And if you have loads of items that just don’t sell, I would just delete them and relist them with better photos or a better description.”

The businesswoman also noted that many sellers often neglect the power of a hashtag in their listings. “Make sure you use a hashtag in every single listing,” she directed.

Irem also extended an offer of assistance to those having difficulty finding a supplier, mentioning that she can provide a useful link upon receiving a direct message.

She concluded: “You can get wholesale boxes, you can get hand-picked items or arrange online video calls to hand pick.”
