Shocking CCTV footage has captured the moment Alfredo Morelos collided with a motorcyclist before he was arrested on suspicion of drink driving in Colombia.

The controversial former Rangers star was involved in the crash as he travelled to training on Wednesday morning. The motorcyclist was rushed to San Vicente Fundación hospital for treatment after suffering broken limbs and abdominal trauma.

In the footage, Morelos’ 4×4 Chevrolet can be seen appearing to drift into the opposite lane on the road in Medellin, where his current club Atletico Nacional are based. As his vehicle travels back into the correct lane, the motorcyclist then appears in shot travelling the opposite way.

It appears the motorcyclist had entered the wrong lane to overtake a lorry before colliding head-on with the striker’s Chevrolet. A second clip, taken from another angle, then shows the moment the motorcyclist was thrown into the air as a result of the collision.

He can then be seen crashing down onto the road before passers-by race to his aid as he rolls around in pain at the side of the road. Morelos’ vehicle travels several yards before he can be seen coming to a stop at the side of the road.

Pictures showed the motorbike wedged under the front end of Morelos’ Chevrolet, which was damaged at the driver’s side as a result of the impact of the crash. Uniformed officers were seen in attendance making enquiries while the former Rangers star appeared to be uninjured as he stood nearby wearing designer shorts, a white top and a skip cap.

The motorcyclist, who has since been identified as Sebastian Guillermo Davila Valderrama by local news site MiOriente, is considered to be in a “positive” condition and is being continuously monitored by doctors at the hospital.

Local news outlet El Tiempo claim Morelos failed a breathalyser test at the scene and was arrested for “negligent personal injuries,” claiming he had a “degree two of intoxication”. According to official information from the Colombian Ministry of Health the amount of alcohol in the blood to reach this level is equivalent to four beers or two spirits.

Noticas report that the forward will allegedly have to pay a fine of around £4,000 and his driving licence will also be suspended for a period of three to five years for the offence. An investigation will now take place to clarify the exact circumstances of the incident.

Atletico Nacional immediately banished him from the squad for their Colombian Cup quarter final second leg tie against Jaguares, which they won 2-1 on Thursday night.

The former Rangers star spent six years at Ibrox, playing 178 times for the Light Blues and scoring 78 goals, after joining the club from HJK Helsinki in 2017. The hitman left Glasgow last year on a free after becoming the club’s all-time record goalscorer in European competitions.
