(CNN) – The recent E. coli outbreak is causing some restaurants to remove an ingredient from its menus.

Fast-food chains, like Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC, are all taking out fresh onions from their meals at some locations.

In a statement, the parent company for those chains say they are making the move out of “an abundance of caution.”

The Food and Drug Administration says slivered onions used on McDonald’s Quarter Pounder sandwiches have been identified as a possible source of the E. coli contamination linked to a deadly outbreak.

The company’s onion supplier, Taylor Farms, says it has issued a recall of four products despite not finding any trace of E. coli in tests of raw or finished onions.
