A popular outdoor adventure park in East Lothian has introduced a new sauna designed to beat Scotland’s rainy-day blues.

The team at Foxlake – an adventure park located in a scenic woodland just 25 miles east of Edinburgh, have added a “HotFox” Finnish-style sauna and cold plunge. With World Sauna Day approaching on Saturday, October 25th, the news of this addition seems very fitting.

The practice of transitioning swiftly from cold water to a warm sauna is well-known in Scandinavia, but it’s becoming increasingly popular in the UK, with Foxlake leading the way in this trend.

The spacious sauna is heated by a wood fire stove and maintains a cozy temperature of 70-90 degrees and can accommodate eight to 10 people.

Foxlake has been a beloved tourist destination for decades, known for its stunning location in Dunbar, East Lothian and the vast amount of activities the area has to offer.

It boasts Scotland’s first cable wakeboarding park, the much-loved Ringos Segways, and the newly launched Aqua Park – a giant floating playground.

With the launch, Foxlake hopes to create a contemporary “third place”—a space outside the home where people can gather, relax, and form new connections within the community.

Visitors can choose between two exciting ways to experience this wellness haven: the invigorating Sauna & Cold Plunge, or the revitalising Fire, Ice, and Yoga sessions for a holistic approach to relaxation.

For those aged 16 and over, the Sauna & Cold Plunge option offers an exhilarating hot-and-cold contrast from just £10 per person, with bundle deals starting at £40 for five sessions, or private bookings for up to 10 people available from £100 per hour.

Alternatively, the Fire, Ice, and Yoga sessions, offered in partnership with East Linton’s The Yoga Den, provide a blend of breath work-focused yoga, sauna time, and wild swimming. Held every Friday and Sunday evening, the two-hour sessions include two back-to-back classes, starting from 5:00 PM.

Caroline Foster, Founder of The Yoga Den, said: “Nestled right next to the woods of the country park, Foxlake offers the perfect space for our Fire, Ice and Yoga sessions. It’s a hidden gem that’s easily accessible for everyone in East Lothian, and the combination of wild swimming, the new sauna, and our yoga sessions creates the perfect setting for people to unwind and reconnect with nature.

“Having a place that offers such a rich blend of wellness and community is a true gift for the area, and I can’t wait share this experience with others over the coming months.”

Foxlake is already well-known for its open-water swimming, with enthusiasts applauding the cold, tranquil waters for their mental and physical health benefits.

Visitors can find everything they need on-site, including a café, heated male and female changing rooms, ample parking, and a shop offering wetsuits and wild water swimming gear for hire or purchase.
