A befriending charity will be able to continue its great work for the next three years following a fantastic funding boost from the National Lottery.

LEAP, which has its head office at Hamilton Road in Cambuslang, has been awarded a grant of £200,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund.

The funding will be used to support LEAP’s befriending and learning and leisure programme for the next few years and will allow the charity to continue to enhance the lives of older people in the community.

LEAP supports people in Lanarkshire aged 50 and over and as well as Rutherglen and Cambuslang, delivers support in Blantyre, Bothwell, Cambuslang, East Kilbride, Hamilton, Stonehouse, Strathaven and Uddingston.

They offer a host of activities and services including walking football, tai chi, badminton, fitness classes, art, and technology sessions.

The charity, which also has a base in Craigallian Avenue, Cambuslang, has now benefited to the tune of nearly £1.4 million thanks to National Lottery players.

Georgie Madden, the charity’s business manager, said: “The National Lottery Community Fund has supported LEAP since 2013, and this award will allow us to continue to deliver these vital services until the end of 2027 at least.

“We are all aware of how much the Lottery Fund has supported LEAP in the past 11 years as we have received almost £1.4 million to help us deliver our services to some of the most socially isolated and vulnerable people in South Lanarkshire.

“We are extremely grateful the fund has supported us for so long, and look forward to continuing that partnership for the next three years.”

Kate Still, Scotland Chair of The National Lottery Community Fund, said: “This November, the National Lottery celebrates its 30th birthday.

“For three decades, communities have come together, supporting one another and transforming lives through lottery funding — a truly inspiring achievement.

“National Lottery players can take pride in knowing that their contributions have helped people across Scotland lead more fulfilling and connected lives.”
