Tommy Robinson has been formally charged after walking into a police station this afternoon.
The far-right activist has been charged with failing to provide the PIN to his mobile phone under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act and has now been bailed to appear in court next month, Kent Police said.
The force said in a statement: “Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, aged 41, of no fixed address, was charged on Friday 25 October with one count of failing to provide the PIN to his mobile phone under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
“The charge is in relation to an incident in Folkestone on Sunday 28 July after officers stopped Mr Yaxley-Lennon under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000. Mr Yaxley-Lennon has been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 13 November 2024.”
Robinson had been backing a “Pro-UK” rally that took place at George Square in Glasgow last month but ultimately he did not appear on the day.
Thousands of anti-racist activists were also present and were heard mocking the far-right crowd with chants about the former EDL leader.
Hundreds of police officers were deployed to the city to stop both sides from clashing. The protest came after riots spread across the UK in August and September following the fatal stabbing of three young girls in Southport, Merseyside.
