Connor Barron is adamant that Rangers WILL mount a title challenge to Celtic – and can win silverware this season.
The Ibrox side got back on track in Europe on Thursday night with a morale-boosting 4-0 victory over Steaua Bucharest. But Philippe Clement’s men return to Premiership duty today off the back of a dismal defeat to Kilmarnock in the league last Sunday. Rangers currently trail Old Firm rivals Celtic and Barron’s old club Aberdeen in the title race.
They face the Dons in a mouth-watering clash at Pittodrie on Wednesday night – knowing anything less than a win over Jimmy Thelin’s high-flyers will bring added pressure at Ibrox. But despite having to chase the top two right now, Barron insists Gers will be in the mix come next May. When asked how convinced he is that Clement has enough in the dressing-room to compete for trophies this term, the 22-year-old said: “Really convinced. We need to show more of what we did on Thursday night and we’ll be fine.
“We know what we need to do. We showed a reaction in midweek but we can’t stop now. That needs to be what we do every week.
“It can’t just be a one-off performance from us. We’re a team in there. The noise on the outside is just noise. That’s not something we can affect. We just need to make sure we do our jobs now, getting three points whenever we play.
“We need to continue this into Sunday against St Mirren. The European game is done now, so we go again, move on and focus on St Mirren.”
