An 18-inch sausage roll has been spotted at a football ground and sent fans into meltdown as they wonder who would buy it.

Taking to Twitter/X with a photograph of the enormous pastry, user Peter Hyam was stunned to see the hefty piece of food in the warm rack. Three of the 18-inch behemoths were seen in the photo and “not one has been sold,” according to football fan Peter, who had attended the stadium they were sold at.

But some users, while stunned to see the size of the sausage roll, wondered whether the asking price is worth it. Some have even dubbed the food item “annoying” and see it as a path towards ridiculous food items in other stadiums around the globe.

Posting a photo from Portsmouth F.C.’s Fratton Park, Peter wrote: “18 inch sausage roll at Fratton Park. £11. Reliably informed, not one has been sold. For reference a normal 6 inch sausage roll Is £4.80.” Some have questioned the need for selling such a large sausage roll and suggested it should be cut down by staff and offered as regular-sized pastries.

They wrote: “Why does it need to be so big? Cut it in half and sell each half for £3.50 each, all of a sudden it’s not too bad.” Another joked: “We need a price per inch survey on sausage rolls.” While the jokes kept coming for the sausage roll, many were left wondering if the massive food item would ever sell, given the close proximity of cheaper chain restaurants near to the stadium.

One member of the public pointed out: “Fratton Park literally has a McDonalds next door (not to mention loads of burger vans outside) so you would think they would charge more competitive prices.” Another was enraged by the sausage roll, saying it was a “s**t idea” that wouldn’t sell.

“Nobody will pay £11 for what is essentially just 2 sausage rolls someone couldn’t be a***d to cut,” they moaned. Others have since suggested the novelty size is an “annoying” part of matchday food and it’s on the rise. @SPFLWatch quote-tweeted the post and wrote: “The increased prevalence of impractical scran is becoming really annoying. How does one go about eating this at your seat. You’d literally have to be Homer Simpson.”
