PHOENIX (KPHO/Gray News) – A woman and an infant died in a crash at a major Phoenix intersection Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, authorities identified the woman as 25-year-old Kristina Lara and the 2-month-old as Josiah Lara.

Phoenix police said the collision happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. at 19th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.

Video from the scene showed heavy damage to a silver sedan and damage to a black pickup truck that appeared to have been spun around.

Investigators say the sedan was being driven by a 23-year-old man headed south on 19th Avenue, who witnesses say was weaving in and out of traffic and accelerated through a yellow light when it crashed into the pickup truck.

The driver of the truck was headed northbound, he tried to make a left turn onto Lower Buckeye when the sedan collided with his vehicle.

The truck driver, identified only as a 75-year-old man, wasn’t hurt.

But police said Lara and Josiah, who were in the sedan, did not survive the crash. Three other children were also in the car and sent to the hospital to check on their injuries.

Police said impairment is not currently a factor in the crash, but detectives are continuing to investigate what led up to the collision.

According to police, none of the children in the sedan were wearing seat belts or in a car seat.

Authorities said they are also still working to determine if any charges would be filed.
