BLUEFIELD, W. Va. -With Halloween less than a week away, many people are participating in this year’s final Halloween traditions before the big day. One of those traditions returned to the Bluefield City Park, with a milestone anniversary as well.

This marks a decade since the City of Bluefield first began holding their annual Trunk or Treat event, with the event growing over the years.

This year, there was a lot to do, with bounce houses, one hundred and fifty pumpkins for painting, and, of course, plenty of candy supplied by the community, with around a dozen trunks set up. There was also a contest for those painted pumpkins, a costume contest, and a raffle for a year of membership to the Bluefield Fit-Rec.

Justin Hawkins, program and special events coordinator for the City of Bluefield’s Parks and Recreation, says the long-lasting popularity of this event is, of course, the candy, but also the fun that those of all ages can enjoy.

“I believe all of us, all the adults even, enjoy dressing up, we all enjoyed Halloween, and I believe most adults love seeing kids have fun, get candy, and come together and play, so it’s just a favorite for all kids,” says Hawkins.

All the kids we spoke to agree.

Hawkins thanks all the businesses and community members who helped distribute the candy, adding, without their support, all of this wouldn’t be possible.
