EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE/Gray News) – A 9-year-old girl in Indiana and her family discovered something scary in their yard.
Ivie Angel and her siblings were in their Evansville yard when they found a yellow anaconda.
The girl’s parents shared a video of the exotic snake, which is not native to the area or even to the continent.
Anacondas are not venomous but could still be dangerous because they are constrictors.
Ivie’s stepdad, Johnathon Head, said the snake was about 9 feet long.
An expert said the anaconda may be a lost pet and said there had been a sighting of it in the area in August.
Ivie and her family met up with animal control officials to get the snake to safety because it would not have survived the cold weather.
Although it is legal to own an anaconda in Indiana, cities and counties tend to have their own ordinances.
Green anacondas grow much larger than yellow anacondas, with some growing up to 30 feet in length.
The yellow anaconda found by Ivie is a little larger than the average size of a male. Females get to be about 12 feet long on average.
