Residents have been evacuated from a Clydebank block of flats after the bomb squad was called to a property in the area. Police discovered a ‘suspect item’ at a property at Overtoun Court, Dunswin Avenue, Dalmuir on Monday October 28.

Police evacuated ‘several’ properties in the surrounding area. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit has been informed of the discovery at the high-rise block, officers confirmed.

Surrounding properties were also evacuated as a ‘precaution’, reports Glasgow Live. Police Scotland told the Record the search was part of an ongoing investigation.

Members of the public are being asked to avoid the scene of the current evacuation. A statement shared to the Police Scotland Argyll and West Dunbartonshire page said: “Officers searching a property in Overtoun Court in Clydebank, as part of an ongoing investigation, have discovered a suspect item.

“EOD has been informed and several surrounding properties are being evacuated as a precaution. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.”

ScotRail also confirmed trains had been cancelled on lines running through Dalmuir station due to the incident. In a statement on social media, they said: “Due to the police dealing with an incident at Dalmuir all lines are closed.

“Train services running through this station will be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 18:00 28/10.”

Officers have been searching the area since a man was found dead at Overtoun Court, close to Dalmuir railway station, on Thursday October 17. Police described the death as ‘unexplained‘ and forensic teams have been spotted in the area since the discovery.

It is currently unknown if the two incidents are linked.
