Kilbryde Hospice are set to benefit from a new charity partnership with EKFC 2012.
The grassroots football team, who play in the Glasgow and District Under 13 Division 3, recently presented a cheque for £500 to the East Kilbride hospice with the aim of organising a whole host of fundraising events throughout the season.
Kilbryde Hospice provide specialist palliative care to patients with life-limiting progressive illnesses such as cancer, COPD, end stage heart disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis.
As well as supporting the charity – one of the team’s shirt sponsors – by raising awareness and donating 50 per cent of all funds raised, it is hoped the boys can raise enough cash to attend a football tournament next summer.
Parent coach Gary Smithson said: “This season Kilbryde Hospice are one of our shirt sponsors and our aim is to raise funds and awareness of who they are. All money raised through our JustGiving page will be split 50/50 between the hospice and the team.
“We have kicked off the season with a generous £1,000 donation from Village-based Farmer Autocare, our home strip sponsor, which has been split equally between the hospice and the team. Some of the team presented a cheque for £500 to the hospice to start this partnership.
“The plan for the boys for the rest of the season is to hold a number of fundraising events around the town such as a sponsored run through the Village and Whitemoss area, as well as some fundraising work with the first team such as a penalty shoot out.
“Hopefully local companies will see there is a mutual benefit in helping the hospice and supporting a grassroots football team.
“Any donations from small or large businesses will be promoted via EKFC 2012 (blue) and Kilbryde Hospice’s social media sites. Just message us with your web and social media links and we will thank and promote your business.”
Head coach Duncan Gracie added: “Funding team activities is always a challenge for youth organisations. The generous sponsorship and ongoing partnership with Kilbryde Hospice and Farmer Autocare will be hugely important in helping East Kilbride FC 2012s to develop our players in football and wider life as they move into their teenage years.”
