There’s a Premiership blockbuster at Pittodrie this week as Aberdeen face Rangers – and while the Dons fancy their chances, it seems the bookies still don’t.

Jimmy Thelin‘s team have earned the right to be considered serious title contenders after a flying start to the season, and a 2-2 draw at Celtic Park – where they battled back from two goals down – remains the only blotch on an otherwise perfect record. They trail Celtic only by goal difference and remain six ahead of Rangers, who are looking to eat into that advantage in the north east.

On paper, it looks about as even as any Aberdeen and Rangers clash has in recent years, and some punters don’t fancy Philippe Clement’s chances of coming away with all three points at all. However, the bookies see it differently.

Popular odds aggregator Oddschecker note the best odds you can get on an Aberdeen win is 14/5 – almost 3-1 – which seems huge on a team who have won 14 out of their 15 games so far this season. Particularly when up against a team six points behind them who have been inconsistent all season. Nonetheless, the best bet you’ll get on Rangers at this stage is just over evens at a paltry 21/20.

The odds have sparked plenty of chat among fans on social media. One wrote: “So Aberdeen resolute and flying… Rangers erratic and staggering… yet somehow the Bookies see it as a very likely away win.. wonder why?” While another added: “Aberdeen at nearly 3/1 on Wednesday is very generous from the bookies.”

Aberdeen vs Rangers – who will win?

An Aberdeen win would leave them nine ahead of Rangers and the visitors know they need a win to swerve the risk of being completely cut adrift at the top at the ten-game mark. Ibrox boss Clement, for his part, certainly believes Thelin’s Dons are the real deal.

He said: “I think they have done exceptionally well. If they keep this level all season then they will be in contention. But I’m focused on Rangers and raising our level month by month and making things better here with the squad.

“So I’m not busy with that, it’s still how many games to go until the end of the season, 29? So it’s still a long way to go.”
