Four members of a family have been arrested and charged in the wake of an alleged abduction and assault on a 23-year-old woman who is married to one of their family members.

Among those accused are Luis Alfredo Tiul Sr, a 45-year-old pastor from Guatemala, and 59-year-old Matilda Games, also Guatemalan, both charged with administering a toxic substance after the shocking events unfolded in Belmopan, Belize. Luis Alfredo Tiul Sr also faces additional charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault, causing harm, and sexual assault, according to Belize News.

Their son, 24-year-old Luis Alfredo Tiul Jr, is implicated too, with accusations of aggravated assault and wounding aimed at him, reports the Mirror. Likewise, Elizabeth Tiul, a 43-year-old Mexican housewife, faces charges that include kidnapping, wounding, and aggravated assault.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said: “She managed to escape from them last night and the police encountered her. She has since made a report and the persons are in police custody at this time,” as reported by Mirror US.

“Certainly, we are looking at that and whatever help she may need then we will seek from other agencies, maybe even getting her a safe house if her family would not be able to keep her safe. We can see if we can speak to Haven House or some other institution until she can get herself back together.”
