Perth and Kinross Council’s education chief is leaving the local authority.

Sheena Devlin – strategic lead for Education and Learning – will leave Perth and Kinross Council on Friday 22 November 2024.

Councillors on the Learning and Families Committee this week thanked Ms Devlin for her service to the council over the past 22 years.

Sheena joined the local authority in August 2002 as headteacher at Dunbarney Primary School. She has gone on to hold a number of senior roles in the council as well as nationally, most recently as president of ADES (Association of Directors of Education Scotland).

In a briefing made to councillors chief executive Thomas Glen said: “Sheena has been a dedicated public servant and will be an incredibly tough act to follow.

“Sheena has been an important part of our senior management team for a number of years and has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of children and young people across Perth and Kinross.

“She also led our schools through some of the most challenging circumstances imaginable, not least the COVID pandemic.

“We are extremely grateful for all Sheena’s hard work and commitment and wish her all the best for the next chapter in her life.”

At Wednesday’s meeting of the Learning and Families Committee convener John Rebbeck wished her well and said he had “100 per cent trusted in everything” Ms Devlin said and had “oodles of respect” for her.

Ms Devlin said: “It has been my privilege to work in service of the children, young people and families across Perth and Kinross in a range of different roles during my time with the council.”

In August, PKC’s director of Economy, Place and Learning Alison Williams left the council to explore new opportunities.

And the council’s strategic lead for Economy, Development and Planning David Littlejohn – who had planned to take early retirement in September – has delayed his retirement and will continue in post until early next year.
